It was a festive day for Mystic 3.5 Senior Women. We traveled to Guilford - and more than one person shopped on the way there and back! We were in good spirits after another clean sweep - winning all 3 courts in straight sets. It was closer than the results sound. On court 1 Linda and Gail won the first set in a tie break. They were trailing in the second set and the rest of the team had finished their matches. So we were able to watch from the viewing area (which is very nice in Guilford). Guilford was ahead in the second set 4 to 2. The time was advancing and we were all watching with anticipation - not wanted to decipher the dreaded last 10 minute rules. We watched Linda win her serve .. she covers the court like a gazelle .. and has great anticipation. Meanwhile Gail was gaining confidence and beginning to poach those cross courts and put them away down the middle. Gail and Linda picked off game after game and won the second set 6-4 .. winning 4 games in a row. On court 2, Beth and Jane were happy to play together and marched to a 6-1, 6-1 victory. They were off the court first. On court 3, Peggy & Nancy won the first set easily at 6-1. The second set was not as easy and we missed the opportunity to close it out serving at 5-4. They took the lead to 6-5 and we were down 0-40 but Peggy kept her cool and came back to win that game and bring it to a tie break. We won the tie break easily .. moving out to a 4-1 lead and then finishing 7-3.
While it's a lot of fun to give the summary of our winning match it's not so exciting to describe our losses. So I'll just mention that our previous match at Lyme Shores was the opposite - we lost all 3 courts. We meet them again at our club in early January and hopefully that will have a better result.
